About this opportunity

The NATO Association of Canada engages Canadians in global security by providing a forum to learn about and discuss Canada’s contribution to international affairs, peace and security.

The four-month Volunteer Internship Program helps students and recent graduates move from post-secondary education into careers in defence, security, international affairs and business.

Interns take ownership of projects in areas like NATO and Canadian defence research, marketing, social media, and event and project management. You can work from the Toronto office or remotely.

The association also runs a remote Junior Research Fellowship for the same term, where fellows publish one article a month. It requires at least second-year university standing and has the same deadline.

Who can apply

  • Students or recent graduates looking to start a career (no official age limit is listed)
  • Motivated, with a track record of managing projects and meeting deadlines
  • Able to contribute to a diverse team
  • A clear connection to Canada (citizenship, residency, study or work history)
  • Apply by Friday, November 6, 2026, 11:59 PM EST

What you get

  • Hands-on project management experience
  • Access to high-profile events during your session
  • Chances to publish on the NATO Association website and in other media
  • Networking with people in government, the foreign service and industry
  • A meeting with the President to discuss your next steps
